Walks in Cornwall: Porthtowan to Chapel Porth

A walk not to be missed when visiting Porthtowan!

This lovely walk starts in Porthtowan, at the bottom of the valley where our holiday cottages are nestled. On a low Spring tide a series of coves between Porthtowan Beach and Chapel Porth join together to create a mile-long beach, making it possible to walk all the way to Chapel Porth with the sand in between your toes!

For the rest of the year however, we recommend this pretty little route that takes you along the South West Coast Path before descending into Chapel Porth. To enjoy the beach at its best try to plan your walk to coincide with the low tide.

Distance: 3.4 miles

Difficulty: Moderate

Route

Start at the pay and display car park and turn right towards the beach.

Pass the barrier and join the South West Coast Path on your right, following it steeply uphill.  If you prefer a more gentle climb there are also some smaller paths which zigzag up the hill.

Once you reach the top stay on the path, hugging the cliffs for the best sea views and a chance to spot the gannets and kittiwakes nesting below. Continue on the path, descending into the valley below.

At low tide you can walk straight down to the beach from here.
